Ah wow I like this a lot!

This sounds like a spooky ragtime parlour and it's awesome. Totally could fit a horror game with a western feel. Nice to see you exploring some new styles here my friend! You're doing good with this madness feel.

There's effectively a couple ragtime techniques involved, I'm glad you noticed! And a bunch of madness as well, I tried my best to infuse a mad flavor to it. Horror/spooky is exactly the effect I wanted to create, if you perceive it, it's excellent! :D

Oooh spooky... Teh heh heh Is it Halloween already~?

This sounds modernist, almost like a cross between Stravisnky and a nightmare-ified Mozart (yes that is a word!). It has a good use of dissonance. It makes the music sound weird but not terrible.

Great job, Solacitude-san and I am absolutely going to review your other "Wicked" song too!

I tried to go as random as possible while trying to keep it musically interesting. It was a pretty weird exercise, and very interesting. It's not as random as it may appear first. I recorded about 30 minutes of weird atonal improvisation and this was the best of it. I'm glad you appreciated!

Ah Troisnyx it's so great to see you release something after all those months! Even if it's not a new song it makes me so happy to know that you're still doing splendid. You gave an absolutely lovely and endearing performance as the aristocrat. Very good for the character, but still very much you!

And Irish-soul, this music is wonderful! I definitely felt that pirate vibe you were going for. Sounds like pirates of the Caribbean mixed with old flash game music in the best way possible. I do love a good sea shanty-type track myself.

Ah hi I only release the odd collaborative effort on NG these days ❤️ The aristocrat voice, to me, was a combination of Fascinating Aïda, deeply entrenched British classism, and a lot of pearl-clutching.

A colourful, beautiful, and wonderful piece in every way imaginable.

I think this song has one of the best orchestrations I've ever heard on Newgrounds, quite possibly in any song ever. It is so very cohesive and lyrical yet changes so much in under 2 minutes (note how you use the instruments for their colours here and not just their sound). It is so complex and specific yet is light at the same time, never coming across as suffocating in its beauty. If I may say this it is a slice of heaven.

As for the rainbow theme you absolutely nailed it. I have synaesthesia so I can understand how instruments and colours relate better on a more personal level, and I can safely say that you did an *extremely* good job on your choice and use of instruments here even though I may not totally agree with your own assessment. In fact, this is one of a very few songs I've heard where a specific image and theme is captured absolutely perfectly. This is not even the slightest of exaggerations. I could practically feel the rainbow shining through the clouds and rain despite it being sunny where I live.

Lastly I completely agree with you about the symbol rainbow. It is one of the most poignant representations of how life doesn't last, yet your memories always will. This piece is a very beautiful reminder of the joys of life.

Sorry for the long review, but I had a lot to say. What a masterpiece. 5/5, 10/10, favorite forever.

This is really something. I love the instruments you've used and the genres this spans (especially the hip-hop type part at 0:50). It's quite complex for a trance song, but in a way that is enjoyable.

As usual this is really beautiful and soulful. You never fail to disappoint. Still, it also sounds a lot like your other music and I miss your more anime-esque pieces like remember. Do consider going back to that kind of feel.

I don't really get why this is called "equivocal". It's a great word and a great title, but I don't know why you called this piece that. Do explain yourself.

Thanks! I'm glad you appreciated.
It sure sounds rhythmic a little bit like the other ones, but it has its unique melody and patterns.
I'm making music based on how I feel when I play it. It can't be forced without sounding forced.
I won't stick exclusively to any kind of composition, but if you liked Remember, you can expect more to come in the future with this kind of vibe, when I feel like it though! ;)

Equivocal. First level of meaning, "Equi vocal". I found it was funny because it could, almost "word for word" fit the actual pattern in the intro, keeping the "same notes" despite the bass/chords going down chromatically. Other than that, the piece is alternating between different sections that could inspired mixed feelings. Its rhythmic patterns and changing tempo are also a little bit ambiguous at some points. I probably had equivocal feelings while playing/listening to it.

Too short.

This is wonderful and beautiful in so many ways! But this also is far too short. This should be 2:40 instead of 1:20.

This is a wonderland.

There's a lot of textures in this one. It all reminds me of music from a little game called SuperTuxKart, and this is actually a good thing. This music also has a little bit of an older EDM feel to it (pre-2015). Kind of sounds like some of those 1990s EDM albums at points.

Erm okay here's a long review for you:

This sounds both like a classical composition and an anime song at the same. It is the best of both your styles. You have the arpeggios of a classical music, maybe a Mozart or a Beethoven, and yet also the imagery of an anime. A great mix indeed. How this captures a struggle is I think that the music is not always purely happy despite its upbeat sound. It feels like a long journey you must go on, yet one where you carry hope with you. You poured so much emotion into this and I am deeply impressed.

Then there is the mix. I like your use of dynamics, it's great. It gives the song a lot of emotion and power compared to if there wasn't dynamics. I don't really know if the mixing itself was much good. I don't really know how to produce audio in a professional style and I only really make it loud enough so that you don't have to turn your speakers up. But I admire your attentiveness to dynamics. You give each note its own feel, and that's good. Also, it seriously impresses me that you actually performed this. This is not an easy piece to play, but you made it sound like I was actually at a concert and feeling your thoughts. Great work on this!

Lastly, the time signature. Oh boy. Your use of the 13/8 is beyond wonderful! I have written songs in 7/4. 13/8, 17/16, and even 23/16 that people see as so natural that they haven't recognized the time signature I used (this is true), and I sometimes forgot this was in 13/8. This is one of the best uses of that time signature I have heard in a song. Besides it is clearly more than a gimmick. I can tell you really used it for effect. That 3-3-3-4 division gives it that animated feel for the first part, and yet the extra beat makes it drag just a little. Perfect for a struggle where you have to put in that little bit of extra effort.

BTW, I actually have a piece in 13/8 here: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1352708, and I would love for you to review it and give it a favorite. I think you'll enjoy it even though it's not as great of a piece as yours.

I am not surprised this was frontpaged. This is amazing! I am also not that surprised it did well in the NGUAC for the same reasons, but if I were judging I would have given this a lot more points. This is a masterpiece.

Sorry for the long review, but there is a lot I had to say. Overall I love this! You are a great pianist and a great artist and I love everything you make! This is an instant favorite and 5-star from me.

I'm always glad when people connect with my music, it's the only thing I hope for when publishing. The fact it inspires you in the same way as these great classical composers is very pleasant to read! They are way above my level though. I always aim for musicality before complexity, these composers are masters at high levels of complexity while keeping awesome musicality. It's very flattering though being compared to them! :) I'm never sure of the reception of my music, when people connect with it, it gives a purpose, it encourages me to continue to release my creations.

A wide dynamic range is important for expressive playing! I was not using it that much before the past couple months. I think I recently left a plateau that I was on for a couple years. It's another level of difficulty, requires more control, but it adds so many possibilities to add meaning, even to the simplest ideas, this and rubato are my favorite expressive tools. I'm glad you remarked these contrasts. It will probably often be present in what I publish.

The mix was more blurry, muddy before. The actual version is a a lot better, more clear, and I'm still working on it! I will update to the latest version at some point, it still lacks in some minor aspects. In order to create a more professional sound, you need to dive into understanding lots of devices that can be used in the DAW ; Equalizers, compressors, limiters, maximizers, side chains, etc, etc, etc. It's a whole world out of the composition side of things. But it's truly worth it to give a go at understanding it as much as possible, it is what can make your sound as interesting as it can be. I couldn't get the actual piano sound without it. It's way harder than going through a library of VSTs and presets, but it allows you to craft exactly the sound you want.

13/8 was really hard to keep up with! The first melody, it sounds simple but I had to play it for hours before my brain starts to register the proper time signature in order to stop going back playing even timing after only a couple bars. Then the other 2 parts are based on this flow, it keeps the whole thing together despite the wild change of tone. It sounds almost like 4/4 but each 4th beat would be slowed down a bit. It gives a rubato impression even when there is none.

It's really nice that this little drag in the end of each bar gave you this impression!
It was in my thoughts as well it's a little bit like you go into the storm... Then must pass through it! It gives an impression of hesitation in the first part before getting into the real struggle. I "finished" this piece only a couple hours before deadline so there's the part where the sun comes back, that I didn't have time to compose but had a couple ideas... It's maybe something I will do in the future.

Smooth!

This music reminds me quite a bit of this called Groove Salad Classic. It's very fun to listen to and soft on the ears. I like the way you combined lounge brass and downtempo electronica here. Fusion indeed.
